Finally decided - Papua New Guinea.
I applied and sent off the deposit yesterday - and today got told today my name is in the expedition list. The people I contacted were really helpful I will also add.I have to admit its a relief that I finally have a plan now and something to focus on for this year at Uni.
Theres not a great deal of information I know about the expedition - but I shall tell you what I have been told so far. Its six weeks long(with a 1 week extra 'bolt on' of diving). I week jungle training, to acclimatise, and get trained on the radios and first aid etc. I think there will be some training on jungle living too. Then its four weeks in the Morobe province of PNG "based in and around a series of villages in the mountains, several days walk from the nearest road." working on a community project. Then finally a week of trekking, which I don't have any info about. I have been told that this expedition is the first of its kind in PNG - and one of the staff said this is the expedition she is hoping to get invited along too - so at the moment its sounding awesome.
The company is Trekforce Worldwide, I have heard of them before and they have an extremely good reputation - in fact when I was in Borneo, I spotted a few of the Danum Valley rangers sporting Trekforce t-shirts. The BBC use Trekforce to run many of its programmes such as Bruce Parrys 'Tribe' and 'Extreme Dreams' also 'Jack Osbourne - Adrenaline Junkie' used Trekforce too..So I don't expect to get into too much trouble out there.
Yeah - so that's my news - I can hardy stop thinking about it now....anyways I have to strip a ceiling this week and the going is extremely slow, theres about 5 layers of paper - so my online presence has been limited, probably a good thing :P - anyways back to the ceiling - have a gd week

Conratulations! It sounds like a perfect expedition! I enjoy the music on your site, I am going to have to get that....
I can't complain too much about not going places, I have been all over, but I dont expect that T would enjoy "trecking" -- he likes the creature comforts. And then again, we have stayed in some very comfortable places.
As for our house, we have decided to start with the garage....which I am going to document on my site. I kind of enjoy having lodgers...I have one tenant here at my house in a little "mother in law" flat which was added onto the house, and she is wonderful, she works at a museum and is a photographer who collects old cameras and lets me borrow them sometimes.
So, I guess you have your work cut out for you, preparing for the JUNGLE! Don't forget your course of malaria pills! Do they still give those? I took those when we spent time in Quintana Roo, Mexico, in that rainy forest in 1991---I need to scan those pictures for Flickr. So little time! Today, after I work on my blog, I gotta get a lot of work done!
Cheers!

Thanks Roger - yeah I totaly see why trekking isnt for everyone, but like you said you can still see the world even if you dont live out of a rucksack.
I cant say I really remember the lodgers in my old house - a camera collector, youve hit the jackpot!!
I reckon, I will have quite a bit of planning to do before I go, luckily I wont have to get as many vaccines this time as I am already covered - just a few top ups I reckon. And most of the equiptment I need I already have; again from last year. I will need to take an antimalarial course again - I used Lariam in Borneo, it was wonderful..it makes you loopy, especially in your sleep lol.
Hope you get time for those photographs
